NetBeans Visual Web Project

This is the home page for the Visual Web project.

About the NetBeans Visual Web Project

The NetBeans Visual Web project enables Java developers to rapidly build standards-based web applications in NetBeans by dragging and dropping components and data sources on the WYSIWYG Visual Editor. It provides a comprehensive library of JavaServer Faces components and deploys your projects as a Web Archive (WAR) to Java Enterprise Edition containers like Java System Application Server, JBoss, BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, Tomcat, and others.

In its current release, this project is called the NetBeans 5.5 Visual Web Pack. Here are some of its features.

Visual Web Development in NetBeans IDE 5.5

Customize queries, add joins, specify criteria, preview results (and more) with the visual Query Editor. Supports drag-and-drop binding to data services and includes a Data Provider API for binding to other heterogeneous data sources. Point and click to define user flow through your application using standard JavaServer Faces navigation in the Page Navigator. Create a consistent look with the Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) Editor.

Industry Leading Support for JavaServer Faces Components

Drag and drop JavaServer Faces components to set properties and write code in server-side event handlers -- or parse tags manually if you prefer. Standard JavaServer Faces reference implementation components, including a comprehensive library of JavaServer Faces components such as Table, Calendar, Tree, Tab Set, File Upload, and many more.

Ajax-Enabled JavaServer Faces Components

Create web applications with Ajax-enabled JavaServer Faces components. Encapsulate the JavaScript and complex server-side asynchronous communication within each JavaServer Faces component. Using an Ajax-enabled component is like working with any other component: Drag and drop the component, set properties, and customize server-side event handlers.

For Visual Web Pack Users

For Visual Web Project Developers

On Jan 30, 2007, the source code for the Visual Web pack was released in open source on netbeans.org under the visualweb CVS module. Derived from the NetBeans 5.5 Visual Web Pack, this module contains the visual web codeline under development for NetBeans 6.

The Developer page provides more detailed information about the Visual Web Project, including downloads of the latest builds, design documents, APIs, roadmaps, and partner information. It also includes information about how to join the community and even participate in development!
